Should you choose Office, Google or OpenOffice?

Microsoft Office remains the default option for ‘office productivity’ software. The most recent version being Office 2013, the suite of programs is better known by its key components: Microsoft Word for producing documents, Excel for spreadsheets and PowerPoint for presentations.

But it comes at a cost, and for some businesses, cloud computing and open source software offer better options, sometimes for free.

Small businesses tend to buy Microsoft Office along with a computer, not least because this is usually been the cheapest option. The basic version of Office 2013 for small business ? which also includes Microsoft Outlook, the email and calendar package ? adds

Samsung will be displaying some of its latest and greatest notebook and tablet screens at the Society for Information Display’s Display Week 2013. Among them, one stands out: a 13.3-inch notebook display with a 3,200×1,800 (WQXGA+) pixel resolution

For those keeping count, that’s quite a bit better than Apple’s 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, which has a maximum 2,560×1,600 pixel resolution. To make things even better, Samsung claims that LCD can deliver “30 percent” greater power savings than existing LCD displays

Of course, we’re not quite sure what we’d do with such a high resolution on a 13.3-inch screen, but it’s comforting to note that the 1,600×900 pixel resolution — exactly half of the screen’s maximum and much better suited for 13-inchers — will be perfectly crisp Read more…

Samsung to flog Galaxy S4 horse further as another handset pops up

Samsung to flog Galaxy S4 horse further as another handset pops up

We’ve already seen reports suggesting we’ll be treated to the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and Galaxy S4 Active this year, but there could be more where that came from as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mega gets a name check.

The popular Galaxy brand is one which has been squeezed almost completely dry by Samsung and it seems the Korean firm is looking to capitalise on its latest flagship, the Galaxy S4, by launching as many similarly-named handsets as possible.

According to the folks over at SamMobile the Galaxy S4 Mega name was leaked in the “what’s new” section of Samsung’s WatchON app, with a screenshot of version 5.0.4 of the application stating: “added support for upcoming S4 Mega, S4 mini and S4 Active.”

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mega - LEAK

Disappearing act

This detail has now mysteriously disappeared from the listing, which suggests Samsung may of had it pulled in a bit of a marketing blunder.

There’s always the chance that this final bullet point may have never existed, with the source “Marius”, who provided the screenshot, potentially being a dab hand on Photoshop.

While the Galaxy S4 Mini and S4 Active are thought to arrive in July, this is the first we’ve heard about a S4 Mega and it would seem like an odd handset for Samsung to launch considering it already has its line of super sized Note handsets.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 specs leak out

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8-inch hasn’t been the best kept secret, and now we’re able to glance on what appears to be a leak of the forthcoming slate.

The leaked photo and specs surfaced over on SamMobile, outlining that the tablet will come in 3G and Wi-Fi-only versions, ready to line up alongside the already announced Galaxy Tab 3 7.0.

If these are to be believed, we can expect the 8-inch screen to come hosting a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, with a 6.95mm bezel that makes it thinner than previous Samsung tablets.

Welcome to the family

There’ll be a 5-megapixel snapper on the back, and a 1.3-megapixel one on the front. It’s also stated that the tablet will be running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Doing all the hard work, meanwhile, will reportedly be a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM, as well as a 4,550 mAh battery.

SamMobile also claims that we can expect to see the tablet by the end of the next month, which coincides with that we’ve previously heard. That said, we’d still take all this as rumour for now.
